Thousands of years ago, God gave His people a powerful promise that before the coming of the Lord, He would "turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers," (Malachi 4:5-6).
While I have heard many prayers and sermons based around this promise in Malachi 4:5-6, I have heard little to no teachings on how to practically walk this out within our homes. This is what is needed more than anything!
This is my heart behind launching this course. After decades as a pastor and a father myself, I want to give families practical tips—grounded in biblical wisdom and personal experience—on how to turn our hearts towards each other.

In the midst of all the craziness of both parenting and being a child, we often forget that the true goal of family is friendship!
In this course, our hope is to help parents and children alike in navigating the complexities of family life—especially during the teenage and young adult years—and build deeper friendships.
Thus, I am excited to be co-teaching this course on family with oldest son Samuel. In the first half of the course, I will teach practical ways for parents to turn their hearts to their children. In the second half of the course, Samuel will teach five practical ways children can turns their hearts to their parents.
While family is messy and hard work, we have found time and time again, that it is worth it!

About this Course
Restoring the Family is a five-week course designed to give practical teaching for families on (1) how parents can turn their hearts to their children and (2) how children can turn their hearts to their parents.
Our hope is to help parents and children alike in navigating the complexities of family life, especially during the teenage and young adult years. In the end, our heart is not only to see restoration within the home but also to help equip parents and children to build rich, long-lasting friendships within the grace of God.

Meet Your Instructors
Allen Hood (M.Div., Asbury Theological Seminary) Allen resides in Port St. Lucie, Florida with his wife Rachel. In January 2019, Allen founded Excellencies of Christ Ministries, which exists to disciple the body of Christ through prayer, preaching, creative resources, and the building up of the local church.
Samuel Hood (M.Div., Asbury Theological Seminary) is the oldest son of Allen and Rachel Hood. Samuel helped found EOC with his dad back in 2019 and is now currently serving as a Youth and Young Adult Pastor at Apostles Anglican Church in Lexington, Kentucky.
Both Allen and Samuel have a passion for proclaiming the good news of Jesus and contending for spiritual awakening within the church.
